Hibiscus
Hibiscus rosa sinensis
Rosa Sinensis means "Chinese Rose".
Beautiful Large colourful trumpets open up when warm and light.
This is a tropical plant, which means in the UK we keep it indoors, or on a summer patio. Just keep watered and in a sunny room or a conservatory.
Despite its common name, no-one really knows if it came originally from China. It was cultivated in Moorish Spain as early as the twelfth century.
Season: May to Jul
Each flower lasts only a day or two, so savour their unique shapes and colours, but flowers are produced one after each other so a single plant can flower for several weeks.

How to Look After our Plants
Looking after your Hibiscus
These instructions are sent with the plant gift
This is the indoor hibiscus - Hibiscus rosa-sinensis or "Chinese rose". They are native to the tropical region of Asia, and tend to grow in wet or swampy areas.
Hibiscus likes a, sunny spot. On a window sill or in a porch or conservatory is best. On sunny days you can put it out on a patio or balcony. A cool room is fine, but a draughty porch or a frosty conservatory is not. If it gets below 8°C it will suffer.
The flowers only open when there is warmth and light. Each flower will last one or two days. When the flowerhead drops off, pick off the small fruits left behind to encourage the new buds.
It is unlikely that you will get any pests or diseases, but if you do just wash the leaves with soapy water. If you leave them outside for any time beware caterpillars and slugs.
