Cyclamen
Cyclamen Persicum
Cultivars come in a vast range of colours from white through purple, red and pink
The florist cyclamen is derived from Cyclamen persicum, a Mediterranean plant. In nature it goes dormant during the summer months, comes into growth as cooler, damper weather starts, flowers in autumn, winter or spring, and goes dormant again as the summe
Cyclamen are very easy to care for indoors, the cooler the room, the longer the flowers will last. They need little water and if possible prefer a dry room to a humid bathroom.
Cyclamen were put to many medicinal uses during the first few centuries A.D. according to Pedacio (or Padanius) Dioscorides, a Greek military surgeon and naturalist of the first century.
Season: Sep to Mar

How to Look After our Plants
Looking after your cyclamen
These instructions are sent with the plant gift
Cyclamen are an easy plant which flowers repeatedly in Autumn or Spring depending upon the variety. They will grow outdoors in sheltered shade, or indoors on a cool window sill or in a porch.
If indoors make sure your plants get some natural light, by putting them near a window. Very strong direct sunlight is best avoided as are hot radiators.
Pick off dead flowers continually to encourage more buds, and pick off dead leaves to keep the basket looking fresh.
If your cyclamen plants start to droop, water immediately and pick off any dead leaves or buds to encourage a recovery. Occasionally mould can develop underneath the leaves, if this occurs, pick off any damaged leaves and flowers, let the plant dry out a little and then water more regularly, but sparingly. Mould is caused by damp humid conditions around the leaf stems or uneven watering and can often be improved in a better ventilated/drier room.
