Calla lillies are easy to care for either indoors in a light, cool room or in a sunny spot in the ground or on a patio. Calla lillies are seasonal plants and we expect to have them available again in a range of colours towards the middle of May. In the meantime we do have some very nice small white calla lillies and larger calla lily planters available from the left hand menu.

Calla Lily
Zantedeschia aethiopica
Pink-green trumpets
Long lasting bulb flowers similar to tulips or daffodils but a little more dramatic. Will bloom for several weeks before turning green and eventually dying back ready for next year. Easy to care for, if it droops you know it is time to water it.
Calla lilies were first imported from South Africa to America in the mid-nineteenth century. The waxy white blooms and spearheaded leaves of the calla lily stand for radiant beauty and sophistication. Today the Calla Lillies we see are manmade hyrbids but still beautiful.
Season: Apr to Jun
How to Look After our Plants

These flowering bulbs should last several weeks indoors or in a sheltered spot outside.
Calla Lilies will do best with plenty of light but not direct sunlight. Place near a window or in an enclosed porch or conservatory. They don’t like extremes of heat, so try to protect your plant from radiators, cold wind and cold draughts. The cooler they are kept the longer the flowers were last but they will suffer if exposed to extreme cold or frost.
At the natural end of their flowering period, the flowers will fade to green. Calla lillies are bulb plants and with careful care can be coaxed to reflower next year. The leaves should be tied and allowed to wither away in the autumn before being cut back in the winter ready for fresh growth in spring.
Don’t worry if you notice water drops forming at the end of the leaves and bending the leaves over. This is a natural response to an indoor climate. However, if the leaves droop completely and collapse you need to water your plant more regularly. Calla Lilies are creatures of habit and can react to a sudden change in situation. If you notice yellow leaves, cut these back in order to allow new growth to develop. Brown marks particular on the edges of the flowers usually indicate bruising of these fleshy plants.
