How to Look After our Plants
Looking after your Limequat
These instructions are sent with the plant gift
This little tree has both decorative fruit and fragrant flowers – sometimes both at once. It can bring pleasure for months, or even years, with the right care. The fruit is edible, but not sweet – good for flavouring cooked dishes or sliced in cold drinks.
Citrus trees need light – put your plant near a window or skylight, or patio door. In summer it can go on a sheltered patio but protect it from too much direct sunlight which can cause scorching. In winter keep it in cool conditions, (not icy) but as the days get longer it will need the warmth of some sunshine to get it growing.
Try a citrus feed to encourage growth and if necessary repot in the spring in citrus (porous) compost.
The best way to check the health of your limequat is to look at the leaves. If the leaves turn crisp and start to drop off you need to water more frequently. However if the leaves are soft and start to drop off you need to water less generously. To help it recover from this you will need to cut off any dead growth and be patient while it dries out and recovers. If the leaf edges turn brown this is a sign of scorching. Your may need to move your plant back from a window or move it out of direct sunlight.
