Launching for Mothers day 2010, Plants4Presents ‘Lemon Tree Treat’ gift package includes a bushy young lemon Meyer tree and a pot of tasty lemon curd made by an award winning local producer from lemons harvested in the Sussex nursery.
Now in their 5th year of trading, Plants4Presents are citrus specialists and supply a wide range of citrus trees and flowering plants as gifts all year round. This year surplus lemon Meyer and Lemon4Seasons fruits from the East Sussex nursery have been transformed into tasty lemon curd by local producer Ouse Valley Foods and will be supplied alongside Plants4Presents popular lemon Meyer trees as a unique ‘Lemon Tree Treat’ package for a very reasonable £25 plus delivery.
It is not the first time exotic crops have been in the news recently, with the first commercial crop of olives just recently harvested by another Sussex nursery. The lemon Meyers used for the curd are slightly sweeter with a fuller flavour than the commercial varieties available in the supermarket and Ouse Valley Foods founder and head chef Julian Warrener had to adjust the recipe to take this into account . “The depth of flavour is superb and the brightest sunshine yellow I've ever seen.” Julian commented “It has produced a curd of exceptional flavour and I could easily have stashed it all away for my own consumption!” Lemon Meyers are one of the best varieties to grow in the UK as they are hardier than some of their Mediterranean cousins and do better in our lower light levels.
Each pot of lemon curd comes as part of the lemon tree gift package with a 1ft high bushy lemon Meyer plant. These lemon plants have been bred in Plants4Presents own pesticide free nursery in Sussex and are tough young plants that are expected to flower in the next few weeks and crop towards the end of the year. The flowers are scented, the fruits take up to 10 months to ripen and the glossy evergreen leaves make this an attractive plant all year round – A great gift that keeps on giving year after year.
As well as the ‘Lemon Tree Treat’ package, Plants4Presents supply a whole range of lemon, lime, orange and kumquat trees alongside flowering favourites like orchids and camellias. Visit www.plants4presents.co.uk to see current pictures of plants on stock and order via the secure website any time up to the 11th March for Mothers Day deliveries. Rather speak to a real person? Plants4Presents specialise in sending plants as gifts and deliver all over the UK by post and courier. An Environmental Alternative to a Dozen Red Roses |

Photo caption: Valentine's Love Heart £25 |
A bouquet of red roses is the ultimate extravagance – with some companies charging several hundred pounds for luxury bouquets that nevertheless end in the dustbin in a matter of days. Surely in today’s carbon conscious culture it’s time to look for alternatives to this throw away attitude on Valentine’s Day.
Cut roses are of course out of season in the UK in February and are flown around the world at vast expense not only to the pocket but to the environment. But never mind the carbon footprint – where is the thought, the romance behind the expected? – surely the text book rose is beginning to look just a little lazy?
Online shop Plants4Presents.co.uk has seen a steady rise in the number of customers buying more original and lasting gifts for valentines and is promoting a range of environmentally friendly gifts for this year’s day of romance. Last years surprise bestseller were olive trees symbolising fidelity and longevity with chilli plants and scented jasmine also proving popular as gifts for both women and men.
This year Plants4Presents.co.uk are promoting a range of environmentally friendly gifts that are sure to melt the hardest of hearts, from heart shaped maidenhair vines to scented jasmine, elegant orchids and pagan myrtle balls, all grown right here in the UK and delivered gift wrapped to your door. Plants4Presents.co.uk range of Valentine’s gifts are great for both guys and girls and will not only win hearts on the big day but will continue to grow and bloom year in, year out.
|
“A living plant is a lasting gift – something you can enjoy together” comments Isobel Rae, Director and Founder of Plants4Presents.co.uk “my favourite are the lovely outdoor camellias – a much more thoughtful choice than the standard bouquet or box of chocolates.”
This year Valentine’s Day falls on a Sunday so it does mean being a little more organised with the delivery, so all the more reason to choose something that will really last.

Online Retailers continue to Beat the Recession |

Photo caption: plants are wrapped and boxed by hand |
With 86% of us expected to do at least some of our shopping online this Christmas Plants4Presents is a great example of a service you can’t find on the High Street
Statistics published yesterday by the IMRG* show some startling statistics with £1.4 million pounds spent online in just one minute at 13.43pm yesterday. These statistics back the IMRG’s earlier predictions that 86% of UK residents are expected to do at least some of their Christmas shopping online.
Many internet retailers are gearing up for the busiest Christmas ever and Plants4Presents is no exception.
Now in its 5th year www.plants4presents.co.uk is one of many websites that offer a unique delivery service that simply can’t be found on the High Street. Alongside traditional poinsettias, orchids and planted baskets, Plants4Presents deliver tea plants, chilli plants, lemon trees and pineapple plants actually in fruit to ANY UK address in time for Christmas. You can specify which day you want your plants to arrive and plants are delivered gift wrapped in a planter with a handwritten greeting card. No fuss, no trailing the streets and no lugging a fragile plant home on the train or down the motorway to visit relatives.
|
Plants are sent from Plants4Presents Sussex nursery by overnight courier or Royal Mail and there is a choice of delivery dates right up until December 23rd. Like many online retailers Plants4Presents work closely with their courier service to ensure that gifts arrive on time and despite recent disruptions to royal mail services Plants4Presents courier partners are still delivering an impressive 99.7% of parcels on time**
Key to the success of many online retailers has been their ability to establish trust. Plants4Presents website and plant images are both edited in house and updated daily so that customers can rest assured that what they see is what they get. Positive reviews and testimonials certainly help reassure new customers and alongside the secure website Plants4Presents provide a dedicated customer service line during office hours. These ‘real people’ based in the nursery can help with anything from delivery queries to advice on plant care.
Online sales still account for only 3.9% of all retail sales according to the Office for National Statistics but this continues to grow year on year. Plants4Presents have seen a 21.6% rise in sales this financial year and a 30% increase in December sales from 2008. Set against an overall rise in online sales these figures offer a ray of light in what has otherwise been a gloomy economic period.

Easter Gifts with meaning from Plants4Presents |

Photo caption: Passiflora Caerulea flower |
At this time of year the shops are full of chocolate eggs and Easter bunnies but Plants4Presents have the perfect gift to reflect the true meaning of the Easter holiday.
In the 15th and 16th century Spanish missionaries first 'discovered' the dramatic passionflower in South America. For these early Christians many miles from home these beautiful flowers told the tale of the crucifixion of Christ and reminded them of God’s hand in nature.
They brought pictures of this intriguing plant to Rome in 1609 where a religious scholar, Jacomo Bosio drew the symbolic parallel between the flower and Christ's last days and committed it to paper. For Jacomo Bosio the 10 sepals and petals form the outer ring of the apostles (minus Peter and Judas who both distanced themselves before the crucifixion), the delicate coloured ring of filaments represents the crown of thorns, the 5 anthers represent Christ's wounds and the 3 stigma the nails. Taking this analogy even further he argued that the pointed leaves represent spear the pierced His side and the tendrils the whips that flayed His body.
A flower imbued with such sentiment and responsibility has much to live up to and live up to it does. Passion flowers are a striking plant, fascinating to study and a joy to grow. There are a wide range of hardy and non-hardy varieties available but the hardiest and most popular is Passiflora Caerulea with its pail white petals and dramatic blue centre. |
Grown around a hoop to display their exotic blooms these plants are available from Plants4Presents for Easter deliveries all over the country. Each plant comes with a choice of baskets or pot covers and a handwritten greeting card and care instructions. As the weather gets warmer these vigorous climbers can even be planted outside and form a permanent feature in the garden.

Great British Plants from online shop Plants4Presents |
Photo caption: Red Camellia Flower |
Plants4Presents are delighted to announce the launch of our new range of British gift plants for Christmas 2008. This festive selection of plants features grapevines and camellias from Dorset, seasonal poinsettias and hyacinths reared in Sussex and organic herbs and chilli plants from our very own Sussex nursery.
In recent years, many of the plants found in garden centres are imported from Holland and Europe where they are mass produced in factory-style nurseries on a huge scale. Their production is strictly controlled and mechanised to culminate in a uniform crop. However these optimum growing conditions often result in plants that need ideal conditions to thrive - which cannot always be provided by the British weather! These imported plants often undertake long journeys by road and sea to reach us in the UK, which not only damages the environment but often stresses the plants themselves.
Wherever possible Plants4Presents source our gift plants from British nurseries where the plants are nurtured on a smaller scale and where the cultivation methods and varieties are suitable for the British climate. This Christmas our 'British Bred' range contains a whole host of spectacular plants that are stronger and more suited to the UK than their Dutch cousins and of course we can all feel good about reducing those plant miles too! |
The stars of this year's 'British Bred' collection are our popular Dorset Camellias. These fabulous evergreen plants are one of the few winter flowering garden plants with large rose-like blooms in red, pink or white. Originally introduced from the Himalayas in the 1800s, these stunning plants are completely frost hardy and will withstand anything the British weather has to throw at them. Sent as gifts in bud or flower, once these dramatic plants have finished flowering they can be planted out in the garden and will provide glossy foliage all year round and stunning winter colour year in, year out. Starting from £26 these Camellias are available in 2 sizes with a choice of red, pink or white blooms for Christmas delivery.
Plants4Presents is a family business based in Sussex and we take our environmental responsibilities seriously. Plants are gift wrapped in recyclable gold kraft paper and recycled tissue, boxed in 80% recycled cardboard, decorated with paper and raffia ribbon instead of plastic and all Plants4Presents greeting cards are printed on recycled card using vegetable inks.
As well as sourcing more and more of our plants from British nurseries we do of course deliver to all areas of the UK from the Outer Hebrides to the Isle of Wight.
The secure website http://www.plants4presents.co.uk is easy to use and the friendly customer service team are available during office hours on 0845 226 8026 in case of any query. |

Be the Apple of your Mothers eye with Fruiting Plant Gifts from Plants4resents |
Exotic pineapple plants make a great and unusual gift for Mother's Day and are surprisingly easy to grow on a sunny windowsill. These attractive plants are delivered as gifts with a tasty baby fruit already beginning to develop.
Originally cultivated by tribes in the Caribbean, pineapples were known as 'anana' or 'excellent fruit'. In the 15th Century they were discovered by Christopher Columbus and his crew who coined the name 'pine apple' as they thought it looked like a pine cone with the tasty sweetness of an apple. This began a steady trade in pineapple fruits and also pineapple plants which were highly prized by members of the Victorian and Edwardian aristocracy. How to cultivate pineapples was a closely guarded secret amongst head gardeners of the larger houses, as this skill alone was enough to guarantee them employment.
Plants4Presents pineapple plants (£24) still come from the Caribbean today; but once they have completed their journey by sea they are acclimatised in our Sussex nursery before being carefully hand wrapped and boxed ready to make someone's day. The fruits make a great feature whilst they are ripening and although they will not reach the size of fruits in the supermarket they are delicious eaten fresh from the plant.
As well as exotic pineapple plants, Plants4Presents Mother's Day collection also features a whole range of citrus trees in fruit and flower (from £23) as well as more traditional plant gifts including stunning spring planters, large indoor roses, orchids, camellias and scented Jasmine.
Plants4Presents is a family business who take their environmental responsibilities seriously. Plants are gift wrapped in recyclable gold kraft paper and recycled tissue, boxed in 80% recycled cardboard, decorated with paper and raffia ribbon instead of plastic and all Plants4Presents greeting cards are printed on recycled card using vegetable inks.
All plants including the pineapple plants are delivered with a metal pail or basket included in the price. Prices start from as little as £17 plus choice of delivery methods, and there are no worries about paying as the site uses a secure transaction service. Plants can be delivered by post or courier to all UK postcodes either next day or for Mothers day on Friday 29th February 2008. |

Dazzle Mum's senses with scented Spanish Jasmine and beautiful creamy yellow Early Sensation clematis (£22) delivered in flower bud to provide an impressive display for several weeks. Great gifts to bring cheer in the early spring, these plants can be planted out in the garden and trained up a wall or trellis once they have finished flowering.

You can choose from a range of indoor and outdoor, dessert and wine making varieties complete with full-colour picture labels and growing instructions. So why not show you care with a Chardonnay, Muscat, Pinot Noir, Gamay or even Rosé vine and let her grow her own grapes for years to come?
Vines do increasingly well in our warmer summers and can be grown outdoors with great success in Southern and sheltered areas of the UK. Plants4Presents grow into Sussex |
Since it's early beginnings in 2004 Plants4Presents has grown steadily and by Mother’s day 2006 we found our small offices simply overrun by plants, plants on desks, plants on the floor and plants on every available windowsill - something just had to be done! After scouring the whole of the South East we finally came across the perfect spot nestled in the sussex countryside with more than enough space to house and pack our plants. Plants4Presents are now the proud owner of 2.3 acres of computerised glass houses and offices and we will be using this extra space to extend our range of plants over the coming months and introduce a range of larger plants and trees in time for Christmas.
Isobel, Emily and Chris are all very excited about the new premises in Newick and have been leading a team of eager volunteers in clearing and converting the old chrysanthemum nursery into a pot plant haven. Following in the success of our Somerset Vines and Sussex grown cyclamen we are hoping to grow our own organic plants and also cut flowers by this time next year while continuing to supply quality exotic and unusual plants with that special 'wow' factor. From fitting thermal screens and irrigation systems, to computers and phones we have all been pretty busy but as we reach the final stages of the move there are so many exciting projects to look forward to...
See our current range of plants at www.plants4presents.co.uk and watch this space for pictures of the developing nursery. |
