Heucheras are really outdoor plants, but when they are young they make decorative pot plants in a cool room, producing foliage and tiny flower stems in the winter and early spring. This variety is heuchera "Plum Pudding" and has dramatic deep purple foliage.
While the plant is indoors, keep it as cool as you can and make sure there is plenty of natural but not direct sunlight. An East or West facing window is ideal.
Keep your Heuchera well watered, the compost should feel damp to the touch.
After flowering your Heuchera can be repotted in a larger pot with suitable compost, and put outside on a patio or balcony or it can be planted out in the garden. Heucheras like semi shade and a damp but well drained spot and often work well in the shade of larger shrubs or trees. Over time your hellebore can grow into a sizeable bush and once established they are very hardy and will continue to flower even when snow is on the ground.
Old foliage and spent flowers should be removed to keep the plant healthy, especially indoors and in a pot. Don't be surprised if your plant doesn't look too bushy in the summer months when it is resting - it will soon come back with more growth and flowers next autumn.
These plants are also send out with a tasty plum pudding to eat over the Christmas period. Made in small batches by the Sussex baker "Lizzie"s Cakes" - See the individual packaging for cooking and ser
