Plants have been shown to help improve mental well-being
Whether it's an on-trend houseplant like ferns, a classic cheese plant or an easy-care spider plant we've got just the thing to bring calming greenery to the home.
Giving houseplants a second chance
We strongly feel that even if it isn't looking its best, a plant should be given a second chance which is why we have introduced our houseplant rescue box. These boxes contains 2 fabulous houseplants that have failed one of our stringent quality checks. Because at Plants4Presents we specialise in plants as gifts our standards are really high; a plant needs to come out the box looking fantastic, and occasionally plants just don't make that grade - perhaps they are a little bit wonky looking or they are not in flower. If they don't look their best at the moment, but they are still good quality plants then we will include these plants in houseplant rescue boxes. Aimed at people with some plant knowledge and time and patience to bring them back to full health.
Low-Maintenance Houseplants
Many plants don’t require a lot of time and effort to thrive, and are happy in low light conditions. Here are our recommendations for easy-to-care-for, low-light-loving plants.
Spider Plant
One of the most easy going plants around is the spider plant. They’re easy to care for, thriving in a range of light conditions with minimal watering. Spider plants are a classic choice for indoor greenery, especially popular with students, office workers, and those who aren’t very ‘green-fingered’.
Money Plant
Thought to bestow luck and good fortune, Money plants are popular house or office warming gifts. Super easy-to-care, these succulents are perfect for workplaces or those who lead busy lives. They offer elegant glossy foliage all year round, can tolerate low light and irregular watering and are perfect for compact spaces.
Zebra Plant
Zebra plants have striking striped foliage – hence the name – and thrive across a range of lighting levels with little care needed. They’re ideal for homes with children as they are non-toxic, air purifying, and look fabulous in small spaces.
Parlour Palm
Parlour palms are slow-growing plants that are super easy to care for. They add a touch of greenery to any space that doesn’t have a lot of natural light, such as small apartments, offices, and darker rooms.
Rubber Plant
Rubber plants make a stunning feature in any busy household. They’re noted for being laid-back and adaptable to various conditions, whether indoors or even outdoors on a summer courtyard! These plants are super forgiving when it comes to light levels, making them ideal for plant lovers who don’t have much natural light in their space.
Care Tips for Indoor Plants
When it comes to houseplants, each plant is unique and will have its own care requirements. However, here are some general tips on caring for your new plant.
- Light – most houseplants prefer bright, indirect sunlight. However, some plants tolerate low light, and a few that enjoy harsh direct sun. If you have multiple plants and limited space with light, rotate your plants for even growth.
- Watering – the general guidance with houseplants is to check the top inch of the soil. If this feels dry, add water, but avoid overwatering or leaving pots waterlogged.
- Humidity – many indoor plants prefer higher humidity, so occasional misting or placing near a pebble tray or humidifier can be beneficial.
- Temperature – most indoor plants enjoy a stable, warm environment of around 15–25 °C. We also recommend protecting your plants from drafts, radiators, or sudden temperature changes.
- Pruning and cleaning – remove dead or yellowing leaves to encourage new growth. You should also wipe off dust occasionally from leaves to keep them healthy and photosynthesising well.

Giving Houseplants a Second Chance
At Plants4Presents, we believe in giving plants that aren’t quite looking their best a second chance. That’s why we’ve introduced our houseplant rescue box. Inside each box, you’ll find two beautiful houseplants that didn’t quite meet our strict quality standards but still have plenty of life – and love – to give. They may have:
- Not yet produced flowers.
- Picked up a little sunburn in the greenhouse while recovering.
- Outgrown their pots and need repotting.
- Developed a slightly wonky shape.
These plants are still healthy and full of potential – they just need a caring plant lover with a bit of patience to help them thrive again.

Frequently Asked Questions
What are house plants?
House plants are plants that will do well inside the home. Plants have evolved to thrive in outdoor environments so not all plants will do well in the drier, warmer environments that we have at home but there are plenty that will. Whether they are flowering or green foliage plants they are a great way to add some colour and texture to your living room, dining room kitchen and even bedroom.
Are house plants easy to look after?
All of the green, foliage houseplants we sell are very easy to look after and rewarding. Simply water them from time time, keep in the correct light conditions and they will do very well lasting for years and years. Many of our flowering houseplants are easy going too and will thrive and provide a pretty display. All of our plants always come with detailed care instructions and because we specialise in plant gifts we tend to focus on plants that are very rewarding without too much effort.
Are your house plants grown in the UK?
Yes, most of our house plants are British grown but we also import some house plants from Italy and the Netherlands.
Why are most of the house plants green?
Our dry, central heated and often dark homes are not a natural environment for a lot of plants and the ones that cope the best with these conditions tend to be green foliage plants. These green plants have their own beauty and value and there is a huge variety in leaf shape and textures to choose from that can be matched with more brightly coloured dracaena, orchids and cordylines. Green houseplants like spider plants and peace lilies are particularly effective at purifying the air and caring for any plant has been shown to reduce stress and help with positive thinking. Green houseplants certainly add a calming atmosphere to the home and make great gifts for kitchens, bathrooms, living rooms and bedrooms.
How long with my house plant last?
This is very difficult question to answer as there are a lot of variables that we cannot account for, such as how regularly the plant is watered, how much natural sunlight it receives etc. All our plants come with detailed care instructions and our team are on hand to help with any care questions so we’d normally expect our houseplants to last a minimum of several months and usually for many years. If you ever have any concerns about one of our plants we would always recommend you get in touch as soon as possible and we’ll do our best to help.
