Care Instrictions

These instructions are sent with the plant gift

This stunning Chinese Evergreen (Aglaonema) is a fairly easy-going houseplant that originates from Asia and New Guinea. The large, variegated leaves will look good all year round and as they are fairly slow growers will not outgrow the spot you have picked for them.

Chinese Evergreens will do best in a bright spot but out of direct sunlight. A bathroom or kitchen is ideal where they will enjoy the extra humidity. They are planted in quite porous soil as they don’t like to be be soaked. Bearing this in mind it’s best to allow the top of the soil to dry out completely on top in between waterings, especially in the winter, where you will have to do very little watering at all.

Chinese evergreen aren’t particularly greedy plants but a general purpose houseplant fertiliser can be added to every other water from spring until the end of autumn.

As your plant grows slowly it will not need repotting very often, you are best to wait until you have several roots shooting out the bottom of the planting pot before you pot these on. Typically, once every 2 – 3 years. Only go up one pot size, so only 1 or 2 cm wider in diameter than the original planting pot. Usually, it’s best to repot in spring or summer, choose a good quality free draining compost with some added grit or perlite to speed up how quickly the water drains away.

Problem solving:

Drooping leaves can be a sign of either under or overwatering, lift the roots out of the pot to try and decide which.
