New Baby Plant Gifts
Plants make fantastic new baby gifts. Choose something easy care to say 'Congratulations' or 'Well Done' or choose a commemorative plant for the garden that will grow on year by year as the child does.
You might choose seasonal plants like roses or camellias that will flower around the child's birthday each year as a reminder of their birth, or you might simply choose something colourful and easy going in place of the mess, fuss and environmental waste of a bunch of flowers.
Our selections below include both types of new baby gift but of course if you need any further advice we're always happy to help by phone or email.
What is a new baby plant gift and who are they for?
A new baby plant gift is a thoughtful, living way to welcome a new bundle of joy into the world. Beautiful, lasting, and symbolic of new life, these gifts are perfect for proud new parents and growing families.
Each plant carries its own unique symbolism, which can add a deeper layer of meaning to your gift. For example:
- Geranium – symbolising comfort and positivity, a geranium is believed to bring good luck and happiness, making it a perfect gift for new parents.
- Lemon tree – symbolising longevity and good fortune, the lemon tree offers a lasting reminder of this joyous occasion.
- Olive tree – a symbol of peace, wisdom, and abundance.
- Blackcurrant bush – as a fruiting plant, the blackcurrant bush is associated with health and vitality.
Plant Safety Information
Although gifting plants to new parents is an incredible gesture, it’s important to consider both child and pet safety, as some plants may be toxic if ingested.
Why give a plant as a new baby gift?
Unlike cut flowers or short-lived keepsakes that will live in a drawer, a plant gift will grow and thrive – just like the new little one! It’s a meaningful gesture that marks a life-changing moment, a living memento that will continue to bring joy long after the baby cards have come down.
New baby plant gifts are also an eco-friendly gift for those new parents who are dedicated to making sustainable choices. Plants create a positive environmental impact through air purification and the promotion of biodiversity. They also provide health benefits by improving the air quality around new parents and the new baby.

Quick care tips for your new baby plant gift
Our new baby plant gifts are generally easy to care for, taking the added stress off new parents who may have a lot on their plates in those first few months of parenthood. Here are a few quick care tips to help your plants thrive as a new parent:
- Most new baby gift plants prefer bright, indirect sunlight. Therefore, they need to be placed near a sunny window. However, avoid the harsh sun that tends to creep in during the afternoon. However, some fruiting plants like lemons or blackcurrants benefit from full sun for several hours a day.
- Keep the soil consistently moist but not waterlogged. Check the top 1-2cm of soil, and if it’s dry, it’s time to water.
- Avoid placing plants near radiators, heaters, or anywhere that’s drafty. They need consistent, warm temperatures.
- Ensure pots have good drainage to prevent root rot.
- Remove yellow or damaged leaves to keep the plant healthy.
- Keep plants out of reach of babies and toddlers, especially those that produce small fruit.
