These pretty succulents are super easy to care. Originally from a desert environment they need very little watering and will thrive in our centrally heated houses over winter.

Great gifts to say thank you or as a cheer me up gift, these kalanchoes are looking stunning again this week with bright red flowers.

With their neat shape and vibrant flowers, a kalanchoe plant also makes a lovely gift for many occasions.
Care Instrictions

These instructions are sent with the plant gift

This flowering Succulent (Kalanchoe blossfeldiana) is grown for the flamboyant flowers which emerge from the end of the leaves, and the blooms should last several weeks, and with a little care should come back year after year.

Naturally these plants grow on the rocky sunlight slopes of Madagascar. An ideal position would be in a bright spot just out of direct sunlight, they prefer to stay warm so are best suited as an evergreen indoor plant.

While flowering the plant will thrive in a cool bright room. Whilst they are in flower try to keep the plant in a stable temperature from 16 - 20 degrees Celsius. The cooler the room, the longer the blooms will last.

Just after flowering the plant will rest, place your plant in a cooler darker room and reduce the watering significantly. When the plant starts to put on new growth, it will need to be moved back into a spot just out of direct light and the watering will need to be increased, try to feed your plant every other watering through spring and summer.

Although it is a succulent it does need regular watering while flowering, ensure to allow the top inch to dry right out before you water it again, and take it out of the outer pot cover, watering it on the draining board, allowing all the excess water to drain away before placing it back.

If you want to encourage your plant to grow and flower next year it is a good idea to repot your plant in free draining compost at the beginning of the growing season (April until September), only go just a couple of centimetres larger than the original planting pot as they like their roots quite pot bound in very fast draining soil, something like a cactus mix or general houseplant compost mixed with either horticultural grit, perlite or sharp sand.

Problem solving:

If your succulent starts to look sorry for itself try leaving it for longer between watering, the most common problem with these plants is that they are getting overwatered. They will need very little water through the winter months when these plants are dormant.
