Flowering cactus (Schlumbergera truncata) are sometimes known as Christmas cactus or Easter cactus which can be misleading because in fact they flower right through the winter. A great way to add a gorgeous splash of colour to a home, and they will fill out every summer producing stunning flowers year after year.
Current Description
We are delighted to have these easy-going Schlumbergia plants available again this week. They are coming to the end of their flowering season, with a bud or two to come, and have been reduced in price to reflect this. As pictured. They will flower every year though making these gorgeous young plants a super bargain. With a feed they may even flower again this winter.

Strong and British-grown succulents, they are currently available in red, white (which have a hint of pink), dark pink You're welcome to make a note below if you have any preference on the flower colour, or if you aren't sure, leave it up to us and we'll choose the nicest looking plant on the day.

Very healthy young plant with lots of little buds. It also looks very cute (if a plant can be described in that way!)

Packaging and delivery damaged the plants

Plant was gift for my dying mother. Box was clearly marked this way up. The plant, a pink cactus with fragile buds had been carelessly pushed in upside down forcing the poor plant into the packing and snapping off buds and stems. The plant would have been ok if placed in box right way up with care. The card was nice, mum could read it, but only a few buds left attached as I itried to save it. V disappointed. I tried pushing a lovely snapped stem into the peat, but expect it will die. This was very sad experience for me. Packers should take more care.

Care Instrictions

These instructions are sent with the plant gift

This Christmas Cactus (Schlumbergera x buckleyi) is grown for the flamboyant flowers which emerge from the end of the leaves. These blooms should last several weeks and with a little care will treat you with another show next year.

While flowering the plant will thrive in a cool sunny room. Try and keep the temperature steady. The cooler the room, the longer the blooms will last. In the summer dormant period it is important not to let the plant get too hot and dry - if indoors move it to a position where it does not get too much direct sun. It could even go outside in warm summer months, but remember to bring it in when there is a nip in the air.

Although it is called a cactus it does need regular watering while flowering but like all cacti do not allow the pot to stand in water.

As the blooms fade, they can be picked up off and this will encourage a fresh flush of buds. If you want to encourage your plant to grow and reflower next year it is a good idea to repot your plant in free draining compost in the summer in a pot just a couple of cms larger. With the right care these plants can last for years and years.

If your cactus starts to look sorry for itself and/or the leaves start to droop, try switching to rainwater for watering and misting the leaves every few days to help it recover.
