Camellia Plants
Evergreen Camellia plants for gifts and occasions
Originally from the far east, Camellias are a British garden favourite and have been loved by UK gardeners for hundreds of years. Blooming from autumn through the late winter and into the spring, often when little else is flowering, it makes them a symbol of hope, renewal and beauty in colder months. Ideal gifts for patios, borders, and terraces, these outdoor shrubs are prized for their glossy evergreen foliage and wow factor blooms in reds, whites, pinks and creams.
Choose from early flowering Camellia sasanqua and Ackerman varieties or classic winter and spring flowering Camellia japonicas. Or what about a Camellia sinensis tea plant? - part of the Camellia family, tea plants are surprisingly hardy and make fun gifts for tea lovers!

Each plant will be presented gift wrapped and delivered with an attractive pot and a greetings card with your personal message.
Care Tips That Help Camellias Thrive
- Planting & positioning: Camellias are easy going, outdoor plants – they do not like to be kept indoors. Find a partial or dappled shaded position in the garden that is sheltered from strong winds and early morning sun.
- Soil & acidity: It is a popular myth that you must only use ericaceous or acid soils for Camellias. Although they prefer slightly ericaceous and acid soils, Camellias will cope well in most soils except chalk and very alkaline conditions. They will be very happy planted in a good container peat-free compost and even garden soil.
- Watering: Camellias kept in pots don’t like to get too dry. Keep soil evenly moist (especially during summer) making sure excess water can freely drain away as waterlogged soil can cause leaf drop.
- Pests: Camellias kept outdoors don’t tend to suffer to much from pests but if you do notice any critters, you can read more on what to do on our plant pest treatment page.
- Container culture: Many camellias do well in pots, and they are usually grateful for a repot in the spring, but you can also report in summer or early autumn, just not the winter.
