Golden pothos plants (Epipremnum aureum) are easy-going houseplants, and vigorous climbers. They are easy to prune back to keep in shape and propagate too.

All plants need light, but this plant will thrive out of direct sunlight in a medium to bright room but will tolerate less light and still keep their lovely, variegated colours. It is happy at a normal room temperature from 10 to 24 degrees Celsius but do keep it out of draughts and if gets hot in the summer you can mist it with ordinary tap water to cool it down and increase humidity.

In the summer when the plant is growing it will need to be watered once the top of the soil is dry, do air on the side of caution and do not give it too much each time as they do not like sitting in water, they are drought tolerant plants. Feed it every month through summer with ordinary houseplant food to help it grow and to keep the leaves nice and fresh. When your plant has stopped growing it will not drink much at all, so only mist the soil if it starts to get too dry through the winter.

As the plant grows it can be re-potted in a larger pot. Choose rich compost that is suitable for container plants. To restrict growth, keep slightly cooler and darker and restrict the pot size.

Problem solving:

Brown tips to the leaves are the result of a dry atmosphere, try giving your plant a good misting and water more regularly. If your plant leaves are yellowing or going brown make sure that the soil is not too wet.
