Difficult to get hold of in this country, Variegated Arrowhead Vines (Syngonium Podophyllum) are highly prized by plant collectors and specialists. It's good to know then that despite their VIP status, these evergreen climbers are actually easy and rewarding to look after. In the right conditions these plants can produce Arum-like flowerheads with cream spathes in the summer. NB Whilst beautiful, the leaves are poisonous and so do keep away from pets and children and handle with care.

Although rare, Vareigated Arrowhead Vines (Syngonium Podophllym) are actually easy to care for. In the right conditions these plants can produce Arum-like flowerheads with cream spathes in the summer.

They will be happiest in bright, but indirect light and happiest at a normal room temperature.

In the spring and summer when the plant is growing it will need regular watering and will benefit from a feed every 3 or 4 weeks with a liquid fertiliser. In the winter keep it above 15°C and so do bring it inside if it isn’t already. It won’t need watering as often, just enough to keep the soil moist, but not wet.

As the plant grows it can be re-potted in a larger pot. Choose rich compost that will hold water well. In the right spot your Arrowhead Vine can climb up to 2m tall. You can restrict its height by pruning it in the spring.

Problem solving:

As with many indoor plants, Arrowhead Vines can be susceptible to mealy bug and spider mite, but if caught early these are straight forward to treat.

NB The leaves are poisonous and so do keep away from pets and children and handle with care.
